I'm ready to be outside, to be grilling, to be reading outside in the evening light, to be playing with Sky in the morning before work, to open the house and let in the fresh air. This time of year is always filled with so much potential and hope. I'm ready for the weather to turn. Slowly, but surely, it is, and the anticipation is almost more than I can bare. I need the sun, cool breezes on a warm afternoon, flowers, birds singing. It's a balm for the soul that is sorely needed now.tapestry100http://www.blogger.com/profile/06232187747463491982noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-354117233188787770.post-34754314977315098542014-03-12T09:20:00.002-04:002014-03-14T10:51:06.999-04:0012 III 2014

As I step outside to yet another fresh layer of snow on the ground, the only sound I hear in the muffled stillness of morning is Winter, whispering softly in my ear, "Because fuck you, that's why."

In other news, it is my 17th anniversary at work today!
It's the nicest day we've had here in months, and I'm stuck at work, catching up, while everybody who didn't do their jobs on time (which is what is forcing me to play catch-up so I stay on schedule), is at home enjoying the weather.

Fun.tapestry100http://www.blogger.com/profile/06232187747463491982noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-354117233188787770.post-85320145296499891852014-03-02T23:18:00.000-05:002014-03-14T10:54:19.466-04:002 III 2014I try very hard to stay positive these days. There is so much going right in my life right now, and I honestly don't feel discouraged by much of anything these days, but after last week's debacle at work, I've been feeling a little shitty, not going to lie. Cut to yesterday and Mandy coming into town totally changed my attitude! I was so thrilled to hear she was coming back 3 days earlier, I didn't think anything was going to bring me down.

Then I talked to my uncle.

I've been lusting over this beautiful drafting table at World Market for months now, and Mandy stepped up and decided that I needed to have this for my birthday present, so she got together with my mom, dad, and uncle, and between the 4 of them, put together enough money to get not only the table but some art supplies, as well. I couldn't believe that they had all done that for me. My uncle called my mom last night and since she was at my place, we talked to him, too. I thanked him for contributing to the table and told him how excited I was about it, and there was nothing but dead silence on the other end of the line. I actually thought the call had dropped. He finally just says, "So, you think you're actually going to use this thing?" Not a you're welcome, or I'd like to see what art you'll be creating using it, but a snarky comment about whether I'll even use the damn thing. While I'll eventually channel this hurt into proving him wrong, but for right now, that comment stings. A lot. I think I'm going to ask mom and Mandy to not involve him with something like that again, because I'd rather them not have the money to get something like that again for me because they would need his money to afford it, than yo have him totally crush my excitement with one sentence.

I'm going to bed now. I'll prove him wrong when I get the desk, but for right now, I'm not quite as excited about it as I ought to be.

We're in the midst of yet another winter storm. I guess Mother Nature is making up for the last couple of more pleasant winters that we've had!

So, today is going to be all about reading and not getting out of bed unless absolutely necessary. I have several books sitting here that I'm almost done with each of them, so I'm going to try to finish at least one today.
Ed closed up the office at 3:30 today, so that was a nice treat to start our weekend a little early. How did I take advantage of that time? Took a nap!

Later in the evening, Sarah, Wendy, Kristin, and I met Whitney and Misty over at Painting with a Twist to paint TARDIS's!!
The finished product!

Gail has been doing some of these classes and I had mentioned to her that they looked like fun, and being Gail, she immediately found me the location here in Lansing AND found out they were doing this TARDIS class. Naturally, I signed up and got everybody else together too. It was a TON of fun, and I can't wait to do another one! During one of the breaks, they had a Doctor Who trivia contest and asked 18 questions about the show. Who were the only 2 people in the entire room to get all 18 questions right? Yep, me and Sarah. The best part was when yells out, "My friends are GEEKS!"

I love my friends! lol

Afterward, Sarah, Wendy, Kristin, and I went to Olga's for dinner and Kristin came back with me to stay overnight, as it's getting a little late now for her to be driving home.

All in all, a rather spectacular day.
Woke up feeling 100% better after a solid 9 hours sleep! (God bless Ambien!)

I got quite a bit accomplished at the office today. Updated the website, uploaded the Grand Ledge information to the website, and started organizing the paperwork for the Marshall book.

Went to the gym and had a really great workout. All chest tonight. I'm sure I will be feeling that this weekend!

I was going to go to a signing at Schuler tonight, but decided to skip out and come home and relax after the gym. I've watched some TV, played with Sky, and now it's time for bed!

ZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzztapestry100http://www.blogger.com/profile/06232187747463491982noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-354117233188787770.post-4499612468690518452014-01-21T19:36:00.000-05:002014-01-27T11:36:20.484-05:0021 I 2014Today was not a great start to the day. I woke up with a headache and didn't feel like I'd slept that well at all last night. Of course, when I wake up like this, it's really hard for me to shake it off for the rest of the day.

I'm begrudgingly going to admit that I need my CPAP and that I think I need to go in and get it checked out. I think I've been getting used to the machine, so need more pressure now. I don't know. It's just really frustrating.

I'm going to sign off for the day, make myself some tea, and go read some more of Ophelia and the Marvelous Boy, which is turning out to be wonderful.tapestry100http://www.blogger.com/profile/06232187747463491982noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-354117233188787770.post-91471463692058782602014-01-20T23:17:00.000-05:002014-01-27T11:17:25.616-05:0020 I 2014Back to the real world today! Even after a trip as short as the one we took this weekend to Chicago, it was feels a little jarring going back to work. I love my job, honestly, but it never feels like I spent enough time away when I'm gone!

Not a whole lot happened today. Just did busy work at the office, went to the gym, came home, went to bed.

OH - I did get a copy of Ophelia and the Marvelous Boy in the mail today from Knopf Books for Young Readers. Looks to be a modern day retelling of The Snow Queen. Good timing for this book with the success of Frozen right now! I'm looking forward to reading it. In fact, I think I'll sign off now and go read a chapter or two. Bye!tapestry100http://www.blogger.com/profile/06232187747463491982noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-354117233188787770.post-13046712432801920862014-01-19T22:55:00.000-05:002014-01-27T10:56:03.480-05:0017-19 I 2014

Chicago!!! How do I love thee?

It was certainly an adventure getting here this trip. Kristin picked up the train in Lapeer, and not three minutes out a car slid into the train. No one was hurt, but it ended up making us 3 hours late getting into town.

Yup, that's where the car hit the train...

After we finally arrived in town, Kristin and I stopped at the Panera right by Union Station to grab a bite to eat. We got to Chad's a little while later, hung out there for a minute and then Chad, Gary, Kristin, and I went back downtown to see Saving Mr. Banks, which is wonderful. It is absolutely worth going to see! After we got home that night, we watch The Little Mermaid in 3D. I haven't actually seen that movie in ages, so that was a real treat to watch that again!

The next day we went to the Museum of Science and Industry, where they are hosing the Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives exhibit currently. While we didn't really learn all that much new about the company, they did have some very cool exhibits of rarely seen Disney props, art, and memorabilia.

After the museum, we went back downtown to run some errands for Chad, and then we stopped at Eataly to pick up stuff for dinner. The place was a madhouse, but I loved it! I want to go back some day and take a little more time to walk around and check stuff out. When we got back to his place, we watched Monsters University, which neither Kristin or I had seen. That was a fun movie, and made for a good prequel to Monsters, Inc. So yeah, an all around Disney-filled weekend!

Sunday Chad had to work, so Kristin and I took our time getting ready to head out. We dropped our stuff off at Chad's work, and then went to Soupbox for lunch and then over to Ghirardelli for some ice cream (yes, we were eating ice cream in the midst of a polar vortex - stop looking at us weird!). We wandered around the Mile a little more and then dashed off to catch the train, which was wildly less eventful on the trip home, thankfully.

Overall, a top notch weekend with my besties!tapestry100http://www.blogger.com/profile/06232187747463491982noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-354117233188787770.post-37249758426126163972014-01-16T22:16:00.000-05:002014-01-24T10:16:45.559-05:0016 I 2014Busy busy busy day!! Kristin and I are heading to Chicago tomorrow to hang out with Chad, so I had lots to do today to get ready for that. At lunch I had to zip home and pick up Sky and bring her back to town for boarding for the weekend. Then I had to take a extra 1/2 hour off later in the day to go get my allergy shots, as I had an appointment with Dr. Brown after work. After that, I ran over to Playmakers for their winter "sidewalk" sale to see about getting me some new running shoes for PHM. With the help of some excellent associates I found a new pair of shoes and two pairs of running socks, and the whole thing came to just over $100, which I don't think is very bad at all.

Now, I figure I had better get packing so that I can get some kind of sleep tonight!tapestry100http://www.blogger.com/profile/06232187747463491982noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-354117233188787770.post-28557086267680933092014-01-15T20:25:00.000-05:002014-01-16T09:55:23.195-05:0015 I 2014Long, but productive day today. I get quite a bit done at the office and then had a good appointment at the gym. I was only supposed to have a half hour, so Joey and I decided to do legs so I could get it over with quickly, and his next appointment was a no show, so we kept doing legs for an hour... BUT, no matter how much I hate leg day, I still like going to the gym, so that trumps everything. After the workout, I did another half hour on the treadmill, so overall not a bad night at the gym.

However, I'm exhausted right now and calling it a night early. I'm going to try to get some reading done, but I may just go ahead and crash for the night.
ZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzztapestry100http://www.blogger.com/profile/06232187747463491982noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-354117233188787770.post-15224287224323047822014-01-14T08:20:00.001-05:002014-01-14T08:23:39.523-05:0014 I 2014So, the other reason I was up late last night:

When Sarah dropped me off after the signing and I was talking to her before she left, this guy came up to to my place and was mumbling something at me. I couldn't tell if he was drunk or high, but I finally figured out he was asking me if I'd buy something off of him. I told him no, and he reached into his coat pocket, and for one hot second I seriously thought he was going to pull out a gun, no joke. He ended up pulling out DVDs or CDs or some shit (I'm assuming he was trying to show me what he wanted me to buy), and I told him no again and I started to walk back to my house (Sarah was in her car this entire time). I heard the snow crunching behind me and I thought he was following me up to the house, but he wasn't, he was actually walking away. Freaked me out just enough that I couldn't sleep and kept checking out the window to see if he was out there. Stupid, I know, but it is what it is.

This was the first time since I moved into the house that I actually felt uncomfortable. Well, other than the SWAT team incident, but that was a slightly different circumstance. Anyway, I was up until about 1AM. Every time I dozed off, I'd come to again and have to go check out the window to make sure he wasn't out there. In my rational mind, I knew he wasn't going to be there, but the freaking out part of my mind wasn't listening. sigh I hate when I get like that.

So... I'm a little tired today but at least I don't have to worry about creepy guys hanging out in front of the office! (I hope... lol)tapestry100http://www.blogger.com/profile/06232187747463491982noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-354117233188787770.post-15118870826925067372014-01-13T23:58:00.001-05:002014-01-14T08:13:40.936-05:0013 I 2014

I'm up WAY later than I should be, but I had a great night. Sarah and I went to Nicola's tonight to see Laurie Halse Anderson talk about her new book, The Impossible Knife of Memory. Having never read her before, but knowing her reputation, I wasn't sure what to expect but she turned out to be a very frank, honest person and I'm glad I got to meet her.
Now, time for bed.
